Roberta Hanley 48, born April 22, 1960 in Lowell, MA, passed away on May 9, 2008 at home with her family at her bedside. Bobbie moved to Tucson in 1968, attended Palo Verde High School and graduated from the University of Arizona in 1983. Bobbie was an elementary school teacher, first at AJ Mitchell in Nogales, then at Smith Elementary at DMAFB. Her longest tenure as a teacher was at Bloom Elementary, where she considered the staff a wonderful group of close friends. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993, she survived 15 years in the face of insurmountable odds, countless surgeries, and the tragic heartbreaking news of reoccurrence. It was the absolute love of her two boys, Billy and Sean, that she survived 15 years. She strongly braved the constant storm of pain in an effort to teach us all how to be strong. She is an inspiration to us all. Bobbie, of Vail, AZ, mother, wife, daughter, sister and aunt, is survived by her loving husband William, two sons Billy (17) and Sean (14); mother Pauline Britton, father John Britton (deceased), sister Paula Cannan (Jim), nieces Kelly, Kristen, nephew Kyle of San Diego; sister Donna Britton of Salisbury, MA; brother John Britton (Rosemarie) of Apache Junction; Everett Britton, niece Brooke, nephew Jake of Tucson. Bobbie thanks UMC Cancer Center staff for their wonderful support. She was blessed with a large family and many close friends who she would like to thank. She loves you all! A celebration of Bobbie's life to be held at St. Francis de Sales Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco on Tuesday, May 13, at 3:00 p.m. Donations to be sent to the Tucson Federal Credit Union in the name of Billy and Sean Hanley college fund.

So many fond memories of Roberta; her smile was always so genuine and her compassion towards others are just a few of the great things I will remember about Roberta. My heartfelt sympathy to Roberta's family. There's another angel watching over us and and shining start above us.

I had not only the great honor of being Roberta's friend, but was fortunate enough to be a member of her family as well. My children, Brooke, Jake and Ashley, will forever remember their Aunt Roberta for all the years of warmth, love and laughter they shared with her. She taught all of us many things throughout her life, but over the last 14 years, she selflessly taught us about strength, dignity, and passion for life. We will forever miss you Roberta. To Bill, Billy and Sean, and the rest of the Britton/Hanley family, we are so sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I first met Roberta in 2003 when my wife and I helped with the multi reunion. My wife Susan graduated with Roberta and knew Roberta on a personal level through high school and beyond. Learning of her passing has touched us both very deeply. I will not forget the wonderful memories of working with Roberta and presenting a video presentation during the reunion.
I did not know that Roberta was such a huge Arizona Wildcat fan. When she arrived with her husband Bill at a surprise birthday party for my wife last September Roberta was all decked out in red as she and Bill were headed for the Arizona football game. Arizona has now got two additional players on their team from high above, my father-in-law Steve Ivan and Roberta. Those lucky enough to have met Roberta were treated to a very special lady. Our hearts and prayers go out to Bill, Sean, Billy, and the entire Britton and Hanley families, Roberta will be missed by all.

I'm so glad that the 25th year reunion was held. I remember that was a wish of Roberta's because of her illness. I am just sorry that I missed it and didn't get to see Roberta again. Roberta was always accepting of all in High School. She was a good friend and kind. My prayers are with her family at this hard time. May the Lord spirit bless you with the comfort you all need.

With 3 brothers and no sisters, Roberta married my older brother, Bill, and alas! I had a sister! Roberta, through the years, our ups and our downs, I loved u, admired you and thanked God you married my brother. I remember laughing at the both of you, with the both of you especially at the games. Helga hats at the Vikings games in Phoenix, arguing with the Sun Devil fans during Wild Cat games. You two were meant for each other. Your gone...my brother is lost, waiting for you to come home. But he'll be alright, for time is the healer of all things. You never had a chance to finish planing his trip to Minnesota for his 50th, so cuz Chris and I have made it so. The journals your wrote for the boys over all these years have been a comfort for both Billy and Sean. We feel your presence in the beautiful home you made for your family. Until we meet again, say Hi to your dad.....

I didn't know Roberta that well but do kindly remember her as a very nice person. I am just starting to reconnect with friends from high school and was saddened to hear about Roberta's passing. My condolences to her family and close friends.
